Laura Amanda White (1882-1948) was nationally recognized for her work in the field of history, specifically the Civil War era. White came to the University of Wyoming as a history instructor in 1913. She was later made the first female history department head at the University. In 1944 White was elected to the American Historical Association council, making her the first UW faculty member to receive the honor.
